Counseling takes courage.

Here’s what you can expect at La Grange Counseling Center

Step 1: Choose your therapist.

At La Grange Counseling Center, our independent therapists, Christine & Jamie, share a similar mindset on how they view their clients: with compassion, care, and a goal of empowerment. The great part is YOU get to choose which therapist’s style may fit your needs. JAMIE uses a Cognitive Behavioral framework to help clients identify distorted thinking  that contributes to unwanted feelings and behaviors. She has a passion for helping clients overcome anxiety as well as assisting clients as they navigate through difficult changes in life. CHRISTINE integrates trauma-informed and parts-based concepts to help clients understand the internal conflicts that often drive behaviors and symptoms. Her relational and culturally-sensitive style aims to provide evidence-based, ethical care in a supportive, non-shaming environment.

Step 2: The first session…

Prior to the 1st session, you will be asked to complete consent forms, privacy policies (HIPAA), and questionnaires about your symptoms and history.

In session, your therapist will go over policies and procedures, answer your questions, and invite you to share what brings you to therapy. There is never any pressure to share what you’re not ready to share and confidentiality is paramount.

Step 3: What to expect emotionally

  • The "Growing Pains": Much like physical exercise, starting therapy can cause temporary emotional "soreness." Opening up about vulnerable emotions can feel uncomfortable at times.

  • A Safe Environment: Counseling provides a non-judgmental, confidential space to process difficult experiences with a detached, objective professional.

  • Personal Commitment: The process is most effective when motivated by internal factors (like personal growth) rather than external pressure from others.

  • Hope: La Grange Counseling Center provides evidenced-based support that incorporates treatment plans to support your goals. We don’t believe in life-long counseling. Our job is to put ourselves out of a job.
